Mr. Preddy qualified as a Doctor in 1972 at Pretoria University and did his internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. He did several years of general surgery and became a Registrar in General Surgery in 1975. He joined the Orthopaedic circuit in 1976 in a fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1980. He worked at Baragwanath as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, and gravitated to private practice two years later.
In addition to dealing with orthopaedic trauma cases since the start of his career, he has performed many arthroplasty surgeries.
More than fifty percent of his orthopaedic practice related to spinal surgery, performed in collaborated with several prominent neurosurgeons. They dealt with degenarative spinal surgeries, requiring decompressions and at times fusions, from both anterior and posterior approaches. Also spinal tumours, disc prostheses, and infections such as TB and others, as well as neck, thoracic and lumbar surgeries.
He has attended numerous workshops in France, Germany, the UK, and USA, as well as orthopaedic and spinal conferences as a member of their respective professional associations. He was awarded emeritus status a few years ago.
Despite having retired from active surgery, Mr. Preddy still assists with surgeries once or twice a week, and keeps himself updated on the latest techniques and treatments.
